Erasmus Mundus Masters Scholarship

In this blog post, I introduce to you the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree Programme. I gathered this detailed information from multiple webinars and facebook posts of renowned Erasmus alumni. Do give it a read to know more about the programme and why you should apply for it. You can use this post as a go-to guide since I have concisely highlighted the essential aspects of the program.

1. General Information

Universities from different countries of Europe provide a joint degree under the Erasmus Mundus programme.
There are 110+ Masters degree programs available, diversely ranging from mathematics, medical imaging to robotics.
It is a fully funded programme, with living stipend upto 1000 Euros and also covers travelling costs which may be upto 3000 Euros per year.
There is no binding clause, like the Fulbright Scholarship, which means you are allowed to stay and work in Europe after the completion of the program, if you wish to.
It offers one of the best multicultural experiences, with people opting for the program from every part of the world.
Erasmus graduates are highly regarded in industry and academia.
Each Masters program under the Erasmus Mundus scholarship has its own application, eligibility criteria, requirements etc.
Basically, you apply for a specific Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree Programme and the European Commission takes care of selecting the university.

2. ELIGIBILITY / REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor graduates and senior year students are eligible. Final year students have to attach a Hope Certificate with their application indicating their expected date of graduation.
IELTS

Minimum 6.5 bands required for most programs (either Australian or British). It is just an English level qualification so the Erasmus evaluation committee knows you are able to communicate in English.

Complete Resume or CV

- It must be quite extensive and detailed; a 1 or 2 page CV would not suffice.

- In your CV, mention all your awards, grants, achievements while keeping a sharp focus on research projects.

Statement of Purpose or Letter of Motivation

- It must be specific to the field of the Masters programme you are applying for.

- There are a wide variety of online sources to help you in this area.

- Usually, it comprises of 1200 words or 1-2 pages, but varies for each programme.

- It is highly recommended to mention your goals, plans, ambitions and research experiences.

- You can also mention any labs in which you have worked in or are working in.

- In short, be as creative as possible!

Recommendation Letters from supervisors or instructors

- DO NOT use a generic format

- It must be really good and supervisor may mention some of your awards or achievements

English Language Proficiency Certificate

- Only a few programs and universities require it, but better to have it at your disposal.

No explicit GPA requirement, however, more than 3.0 is preferred

- Mention all research projects if you are not strong in this area.

3. Timeline

Get your IELTS done with by September of the current year
Get all your letters ready by December of the current year
Deadlines approach from the start to end of January of the next year
The application decisions and feedback are announced by March or April of the next year
Semester begins September of the next year

4. Key Points

The application itself takes 5-6 hours once you have all the requirements and documents ready, hence it's not complex at all.
Focus more on research and any internship experiences.
GRE is not a mandatory requirement, hence you may or may not appear for it, but it does not help the application significantly.
Your extracurricular activities and portfolio are an important component of your application. This includes community service experience, volunteer work and exchange programs. Show your involvement.
Show your love for your home country in the application, like you may want to improve and help your home country with the expertise you gain from the Erasmus programme.
Upload all the certificates you have obtained (from high school to university), if possible.
There are 500 to 600 applicants for each program in each application cycle from all over the world, and 20 to 30 are selected from Pakistan (across all programs) so it is highly competitive.
