Applying for a Masters program

With respect to the medium of applications, all universities in Germany can be divided into two groups:

1. Uni-assist universities

These universities have subcontracted their admissions application process to uni-assist (Read more here). Several high-ranked universities such as Technische Universität München and Freie Universität Berlin make use of this service. Applications for these universities is only possible through the uni-assist service.

2. Direct application universities

These universities take full responsibility of processing the admissions applications by themselves. They might demand for an online application, hard copies of your documents or both.

Once you are done with choosing a program of your interest, please make sure you read the respective PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS very carefully.

This is highly important as eligibility/entry requirements differ from program to program. For example, language test requirement for some programs might be the GRE test while others might require IELTS or TOEFL. Hence, it is crucial that you read the eligibility criteria very carefully.

The DAAD website displays the respective Course Details, Costs/Funding and Requirements quite neatly.

If you are still not clear on anything, you can always visit the official program website or university website. Remember that applications for all programs can be made either online, via post, or through Uni-Assist.
